The Riverina region located in southern NSW is home to a number of national, state and regional parks that allow visitors and residents to access the natural surrounds of the region.
Cocoparra National Park
Located close to the major town of Griffith, Cocoparra offers basic camping, lookouts and bush walks in a backdrop of natural contrasts. Spring is the perfect time to see wildflowers, bird and wildlife. Facilities include picnic tables, gas/electric barbecues, non-flush toilets and a campground off Whitton stock route
Willandra National Park
Located a short drive from Hillston, Willandra Station was once famous for its wool, and these days it offers an insight into the pastoral history of the region.The homestead, surrounded by gardens and overlooking peaceful Willandra Creek, has been restored to its former glory. The grasslands and black-box-lined creek beds to the west of the homestead are home to kangaroos, emus and ground-nesting birds..
The facilities include two campgrounds, wood barbecues, flush toilets, amenities block, cold showers, drinking water. Vehicle entry is $7 and camping fees are $5 per adult and $3 per child. River Red Gums
From July 1 2010 the NSW Government established more than 100,000 hectares of river red gum parks in the Riverina, with a support package of up to $97 million for affected timber industry workers, regional communities and to set up and manage the new parks.
The range of new reserves, including national parks, regional parks and Indigenous Protected Areas, together with existing parks in Victoria, form the largest area of river red gum in conservation reserves in the world.
