Narrandera really is a very pretty town. Its shady streets and wide avenues hint at its early prosperity and the wealth of stories told via its historic walks.
It’s a town that had its genesis when the legendary overlanders brought cattle from Queensland to the Victorian Goldfields; each time crossing the Murrumbidgee River where Narrandera now lies. Some of Narrandera’s earliest stone and brick buildings still stand and you can sense the pride of early pioneers in the façades that line the main street.
The Murrumbidgee River and its associated waterways are still a focus for the town today. The Lake Talbot and river environs are a naturalist’s delight, with walking tracks on the river flats and into the hills. Over summer the lake is a hive of activity with water skiing and canoeing on the lake, and swimming in the nearby Lake Talbot Aquatic Park.
A good mix of accommodation and boutique shopping adds to the town’s appeal.
You’ll enjoy Narrandera for its friendly country people and its very Australian character.
